I’m a scholar of literature, with a focus on narrative and the history of reading practices. That means I research how people tell and experience stories – whether in the form of novels, movies or just everyday gossip – as well as how readers of the past and present interact with printed books, magazines, newspapers and digital texts. I’m especially interested in the connection between narrative and reading practices: what do we do when we’re reading a story? My research centres on the UK, France, Germany and the US.
